In 1912 someone murdered four people in rural Adams County, dismembered their bodies, then tried to hide the evidence by burning the house in which the killings occurred. The family’s son was charged. Seeing her grandfather’s name on the witness list for one of four trials of Ray Pfanschmidt, author Beth Lane of Tucson began investigating and writing the story of the county’s oldest unsolved murder case. The result was her new 428-page non-fiction book, Lies Told Under Oath. Books will be available for autographing.

Ms. Cynthia Gensheimer of Amherst, MA, will deliver a special address on Annie Jonas Wells, the seventh of nine children of Abraham Jonas, first Jewish citizen of Quincy, founder of the Masonic movement in Illinois and close friend of Abraham Lincoln. Wells became known for her charitable work during the Civil War and as a charter member of the Friends in Council, a study group for women in Quincy. Gensheimer, who has been studying Wells, is an author and education economist.
