As the weather changes and the leaves begin to fall, it is a reminder that it is time once again for the Historical Society’s Woodland Cemetery Ghost Tours. The walking event, scheduled on Saturdays in October plus Halloween night in Woodland Cemetery will take you back to Quincy’s historical past. The Guided Tours will feature experienced guides who will lead you on two separate and entertaining tours through the cemetery. Guided tours this year will focus on Quincy’s Underground Railroad and Nation at War – Quincy and the Civil War. The Golden Age of the Gem City Tours will feature re-enactors at the gravesites of Quincyians who were prominent during the city’s Golden Age.
The tours will be held every Saturday in October and on Halloween night. The schedule will be as follows:
October 2, 16 – Road to Freedom – Underground Railroad – Guided tours at 5:30pm, 6:00, 6:30, 7:00
October 9, 31 – Nation at War Quincy and the Civil War – Guided tours at 5:30pm, 6:oo, 6:30, 7:00
October 23, 30 – Golden Age of the Gem City Tour – Tours every 20 minutes from 5:00pm – 7:00 pm
The cost of the Historical Society tours is $15 per person. There are new restrictions and limited group sizes this year so it’s important to call the HSQAC office for a reservation at 217-222-1835
The Ghost Tours are one of the Society’s most important fundraisers of the year. The proceeds support the preservation of the Governor John Wood Mansion and the History Museum on the Square.
