Mark Ridenour has been the acting principal trumpet of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra since 2016. He was appointed as the assistant principal trumpet in 1994 and also serving as the acting principal from 2003 until 2005. He has appeared as soloist with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Florida Orchestra, Highland Park Strings, and Roosevelt University Orchestra as well as brass bands in the United States and Canada. He can be heard on the Telarc releases of Prokofiev’s Symphony No. 5 and Lieutenant Kijé and the Grammy Award–winning Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition and Night on Bald Mountain with the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra as well as every CSO recording since 1994.
“Though it may not say this in anything official, Mark Ridenour is considered one of the premier trumpet players in the world,” stated Area Commander Major Andrew Miller. “He plays the principal trumpet part in one of the, if not the top Orchestra in the world. When you hear Mark Ridenour, the absolute beautiful quality of the sound is mesmerizing. He not only plays the notes perfectly, he plays them from his soul. He considers his playing a tribute to Jesus.”
