CANDLELIGHT TOURS PLANNED FOR FAMILIES; LIGHTING CEREMONY AT THE GOVERNOR JOHN WOOD MANSION WILL KICK OFF EVENT
Quincy, Ill.—The Historical Society of Quincy and Adams County will once again offer Christmas Candlelight Tours of the Governor John Wood Mansion. Annually, this popular Quincy tradition has allowed visitors to step back in time and enjoy the beautifully decorated Greek Revival home of John Wood, Quincy’s founder. This year the event will also include the reveal of a new lighting plan for the Mansion in which all 31 windows of the home will feature authentic flame-style lantern lights. The lighting ceremony will be held outdoors at the Mansion on Friday, November 27, at 5:00 p.m., and the public is invited to bring their families by to view the lights.
Due to pandemic restrictions, this year’s Candlelight Tours will be available for families or small groups only with reservations required, and holiday photo opportunities are being planned for both inside and outside of the Mansion. The theme, Father Christmas and
the Spirit of Good Cheer Cheer, will be featured throughout the Mansion with trees decorated by students from Adams County high schools. Light refreshments and holiday music will add to the festive nature of the event.
Candlelight Tours will be scheduled between 5:00 and 7:30 pm on five days-December 11,12,18,19 and 26. Only two families or groups will be allowed in the Mansion at the same time, with one at the front and the other at the back of the house. All attendees must wear masks.
Tours will begin in the Society’s Visitors Center next to the Mansion, where the Mansion Gift Shop will be open and wrapped and bottled refreshments will be available.
Reservations must be made for families or groups of 10 or fewer by contacting the HSQAC Office at 217-222-1835 or firstname.lastname@example.org. – RESERVATIONS REQUIRED
The Oakley Lindsay Foundation is sponsoring the event which is free and open to the public.
