Marching bands from Illinois, Missouri and Iowa paraded down Quincy’s colorful Maine Street on Saturday, October 18 at 2:00 p.m. during the 19th annual OCTOBERFEST INVITATIONAL PARADE and FIELD COMPETITION sponsored by the Quincy Senior High Music Department, WGEM and the QPS Friends of the Performing Arts. The parade began at 30th and Maine streets and continued west to Quincy Junior High at 14th and Maine. Area and traveling marching bands presented their competition selections for the judge’s stand located at 25th and Maine Streets. After the parade, the bands traveled to FLINN MEMORIAL STADIUM at 44th and Maine streets where the field competition began at 5:15 p.m. after an opening ceremony presented by the Quincy Senior High Marching Blue Devil Band, Colorguard and Q-City Pommers. During the field competition, marching bands presented their half-time presentations for adjudication by a panel of distinguished judges. Awards were presented for musicianship and overall class at the conclusion of the competition. Memorial Awards were presented during the event including the Ragan Knapheide Award for Outstanding Percussion, the James Burns Award for Outstanding Brass, the Charles Heidbreder Memorial Drum Major Award, the Todd Slater Memorial Spirit Award and the Randy Hoover Outstanding Soloist Award.
