The Quincy Symphony Orchestra opens their 71st season with a rousing concert. The performance includes Shostakovich’s “Festive Overture”, Brahms’ “Symphony No. 4” and Rossini’s “Theme and Variations for Clarinet” featuring Christine Damm as soloist. The “Epic Romance” concert is part of the Quincy Public Library’s 2018 Big Read event schedule. This year’s novel, “Station Eleven” depicts a traveling symphony which tours the Midwest performing Shakespearean plays and orchestra music. The QSO will perform William Walton’s adaptation of Shakespeare’s “As You Like It.”

Tickets are available at the door, or in advance at Quincy Hy-Vee stores, County Market, Sturhahn Jewelers, the Symphony Office at 200 N. 8th Street or at qsoa.org. Individual concert tickets are $18 for adults and $15 for senior citizens. Thanks in part to support from the Tracy Family Foundation and the Community Foundation, children 18 and under are admitted free to all QSO concerts, and are encouraged to attend.
