In conjunction with the City of Quincy’s 175th Anniversary observance, the Quincy Preservation Commission will conduct a walking tour of part of the Northwest National Register Historic District on Saturday, October 24th. The hour-long tour will begin at 10:00 a.m. at the intersection of North 6th and Elm. The tour is free of charge. Handouts will be available. Reservations may be made by calling 217-228-4545.
The Northwest Historic District developed as Quincy’s first high-style residential neighborhood, but its architectural character is defined as well by practical “vernacular” nineteenth century houses built cheek-by-jowl with the grander homes. The tour will highlight this contrast.
Included on the tour will be the—
• August and Alice Noll House, 814 North 6th St.;
• Joseph and Margaret Gravell House, 821 North 6th St.;
• William and Ann Larkworthy House, 535 Lind St.;
• Elijah Renfrow Rental House, 527 Lind St.;
• Moses and Theresa Bachrach House, 835 North 5th St.;
• Charles Ackerman Rental House, 931 North 5th St.;
• Myron Gould House, 401 Chestnut St.; and the
• Gothic/Exotic Revival House at 1016 North 4th St.
