“RUN FOR THE FALLEN” TO HONOR AND REMEMBER ILLINOIS’ HEROES
Relay team to run 50 mile route from Macomb to Warsaw to pay homage to over 550 of Illinois’ Fallen. Runners will stop every mile to read the names of the Fallen.
Warsaw, IL – Honor and Remember, a 501(c)(3) charitable organization dedicated to keeping alive the memory of our fallen military personnel and civilian first responders, will be conducting a tribute run on Saturday, April 13th 2019. The event, organized by local Gold Star families and supporters, will begin at 7:00 AM at Western Illinois University in Macomb and will run a 50 mile route to Warsaw, arriving approximately at 5:00 PM.
We are honoring the following Fallen from Illinois:
- Fallen military service members that died either while in the service or as a result of their military service, regardless of the specific cause, since the War on Terror began with the attack on the USS Cole in the Persian Gulf in 2000.
- We are seeking any additions to the list of fallen military service members from Illinois from previous generations who died either while in the service or as a result of their military service, regardless of the specific cause, whose families would like to have them honored on the route of the Run. This would include (but is not specifically) limited to Persian Gulf, Vietnam, Korea or the World Wars of the 20th century.
- We are seeking to include honors for fallen Illinois first responders (police, fire, EMS, etc.) who died either while they were serving their communities or as a result of their service, regardless of the actual cause.
The Run – The runners will run each mile and then stop for a brief ceremony to read the names assigned to that mile. This process will be continued mile after mile, until the last of the names on the list have been read at the final stop in Warsaw. Family members of the Fallen are invited to stand at their Hero’s marker for the roadside ceremony and to attend the evening’s ceremony and dinner.
