“Songs of our History”, the Quincy Symphony Chorus spring pops concert will be held at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, March 4 in Salem Evangelical United Church of Christ.
The choristers will perform songs that trace American music traditions through several eras while showcasing our country’s diversity of style. Selections include “Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy,” “This Land is Your Land” and “Don’t Get Around Much Anymore.” Medleys focusing on the highlights of musical genres include “100 Years of Broadway,” “Civil War Medley,” “Disney Spectacular” and “Old West Medley.”
Special guests Take 4, a female acapella and barbershop quartet, will also perform. Take 4 formed in January 2014 and represents Sweet Adelines International as 3rd place medalists. Hailing from both the Kansas City and St. Louis areas, the quartet enjoys performing a diverse repertoire for audiences of all ages. Take 4 includes Wendy Spilker (bass), Kristin Drummond-Mance (baritone), Chacey Rembecki (lead) and Melissa VanHousen (tenor).
The Quincy Symphony Chorus, under the direction of Dr. Phyllis Robertson, is a regional singing group with members from many generations coming together weekly for the fellowship and the enjoyment of making music.
Tickets for Songs of our History will be available at the door or in advance at Quincy Hy-Vee stores and Sturhahn Jewelers. The cost is $18 for adults and $15 for seniors. Thanks in part to support from the Tracy Family Foundation, children 18 and under are admitted free to all QSO concerts, and are encouraged to attend. The performance is made possible in part by Concert Sponsor Gardner Denver, Music Sponsor First Bankers Trust, Media Sponsor STARadio WTAD, and by the Illinois Arts Council Agency. Special thanks to our season sponsors Knapheide Manufacturing Company and Blessing Health System.
The $250 early bird drawing for the QSOA fundraising raffle will be held at the end of intermission. Raffle tickets are for sale for $10 each or 12 for $100, and are available from any chorus, orchestra, Encore!, or board member. The $1,000 grand prize drawing will be held at the Quincy Symphony’s Orchestra’s “Symphonie Fantastique” Finale Concert on April 29. The winner need not be present at the drawing.
