At 7:00 pm on Thursday, February 27th, Ulysses Grant will appear in Quincy! Dr. Curt Fields, a nationally-known Grant impersonator, will present a program entitled “Ulysses S. Grant: The Desperate Years” at the O’Donnell-Cookson Celebration of Life Home at 1435 State in Quincy. The program is sponsored by the Historical Society of Quincy and Adams County and the Tri-State Civil War Round Table.
The talk will emphasize Grant’s life during the Mexican War, his years of military service on the West Coast, and his failures in business. Included also in this presentation will be a panorama of Grant and Civil War scenes shown in the round using O’Donnell-Cookson’s new multi-media media system.
In addition to the Grant program, the replicated body, casket and catafalque of President Abraham Lincoln will be located in the home’s side chapel. The HSQAC displayed these Lincoln items several years ago at The History Museum on the Square in downtown Quincy.
Grant-related items from personal local collections will also be on display that night, as will a mezzo-tint portrait of the General. This art work was recently donated to HSQAC by Ruth and Howard Snowden.
All are welcome to attend this free program, but due to limited seating space, reservations are suggested. Refreshments will also be provided by O’Donnell-Cookson.
